Overview of Pedal Easy models

Our bikes have blended characteristics of a road bike (light weight, large diameter wheels for low rolling resistance) and characteristics of a city bike (somewhat wider tires, non-drop handlebars, more upright riding position). They are what has come to be known as hybrids. Riders sit in an upright position that gives them good visibility, good control, and a posture that reduces strain on their neck and back. European cyclists have enjoyed these features for their domestic bikes and e-bikes for decades. A trip to Holland, the bike capital of the world, with 40% of all traffic movement by bicycle, should convince any skeptic of the merits of this riding position. Most Dutch riders are on upright style bicycles (except on Sundays when the racing enthusiasts are out!). It is our opinion that the North American bicycle industry has been and still is, too fixated on sport bikes, both racing and off-road. To pretend these sports products are best for everyday use is a bit of a disservice to the people who buy them. The CanCycle frame is a classic diamond shape whereas the Easy Riders have curved low-slung top bars for step-thru mounting and dismounting. As a rough guideline, the CanCycle nominally fits riders from 5’5” to 6’. The Easy Rider covers a nominal range of 5’2” to 5’8”, and the 26” wheel version of the Easy Rider fits even smaller riders (4’10” to 5’6”).

A model that is new for 2021 is our CF Commuter, which has a carbon frame, front suspension, and wider, higher-volume tires, more typical of light hard-tail mountain bikes. This is the only one of our models that has derailleur gearing (the others all use Shimano Nexus internally geared rear hubs). The CF Commuter has 22 speeds and comes in 3 sizes, for riders from 5’ to 6’8”.

All models are designed to be as bike-like as possible and are exceptionally light in weight, around 38 pounds with battery.
